Enjoyed an Adirondack canoe in buck hunt with two skilled hunters. The challenge is the opportunity in those woods and a "good buck" is hard to find.
Simmered the skull on a propane campstove after removing the hair and hide. Popped out the ear buds with a screw driver and then used a small knife and stiff bristled brush to loosen up what was still attached before washing it all clean. It simmered some more with a scoop of oxyclean and i'm calling it done. I don't care much to whiten it further with Salon40 or shine it up with mop & glow. It took awhile to get clean but overall no more unpleasant than pulling meat off a cooked soup bone.
A hunter's prayer:
Luck and perseverance..I hadn't been seeing mature bucks so started fresh trying new spots on public land. The experienced hunters often say "it comes down to time in the woods" when the rut is going on and I was in the right place at the right time to jump this swollen 8pt and get a shot off at 20yards.
