Our Organic Community Garden 10×10 plot

This season my wife and I signed-up for a 10×10 plot at the local community garden. We planted mostly Baker Creek Heirloom seeds and dug in a few seedlings picked up from a Master Gardener plant sale.  We have harvested sorrel, spinach, chard, fennel, radishes, peas, beans, beets, carrots, tomatoes, tomatillos, eggplants, zucchini and peppers from our healthy compost laden soil. When the cucumbers are ready we’ll be canning with our dill.  It’s safe to say that we will sign-up for more than one plot next year.

If anyone comes across this page looking for community garden program ideas, these are two programs that I led that went well and would be easy to copy.

Greetings Gardeners! There will be a Lettuce Celebrate Program. Join us for a quick gathering at the garden as we all cut some greens for the giant salad bowl. Participation is free so long as you bring your own reusable bowl and fork. Quick introduction to a few edible “weeds” will follow.   Balsamic, big bowl, tongs, cutting board and knives/scissors will be provided. Feel free to bring any other dressing/toppings you want! It will be a fun time with delicious food from your own garden! If there is any questions, let us know!

Greetings Gardeners!
There will be a Garden Fresh Salsa & Chips program. Let’s mix and match some tomatoes, tomatillos, onion, pepper and more to make some salsas. Bring your favorite chips and dip into the garden.  Bowls, tongs, cutting board and knives/scissors will be provided. Feel free to bring any other additions that you want! It will be a fun time with delicious food from your own garden! If there is any questions, let us know!
