Last photo drop of my recent trip out. One of the nights I paddled down the grassy section of the cedar river flow up and over beaver dams until I hit the NP trail. A short portage to the carry leanto and a short paddle upriver to check out carry pond just up a little hill. The pond was shallow and full of newts and lacked an established campsite so I made a decesion to continue on and float back down the cedar river. It paid off with a beautiful site and sunset!
Another pond explored. This one was a four mile portage with some beaver activity that washed out part of the trail. No bother to me, plenty of experience with that after the Little Tupper traverse trip.
Carried my gear out and fished a small trout pond in the Moose River Plains. The bite was on right away but mostly smaller 7" brookies. Kept just one for the fry pan to enjoy with double smoked bacon, chanterelles and hedgehog.
Came across a whitetail deer skeleton in the middle of a mucky drainage flow. Had to get a better look at the buck skull so I reached down for it. Wonder if it just got stuck, fell through the ice, washed down to where I found it... idk. R.I.P.
Paddled across Putnum pond and portaged into Rock pond to make camp for the weekend in the Pharoah Lake Wilderness Area. Hiked up Treadway and around Grizzle Ocean. The area was surprisingly empty except a few day hikers and swimmers. Felt like a rookie because I couldn't catch a brookie but the water was still at swimming temps. Soon enough they'll be hungry and I'll be back. 👍
