As part of Native American Craft related programming we have participants weave or reverse wrap cotton string to be placed in the dye of a natural color of their choice. The colors displayed in the photographs below were created by simmering coreopsis flowers, blueberries and beats. The individual bracelet was left in the chosen dye for a few minutes allowing the color to soak all the way through.

Many other roots, leaves, nuts, berries and flowers can be simmered to create colorful dyes.
Experiment and you may uncover hidden colors of nature.
